‘ERA 6.75, June in crisis,’ Korean big leaguer not much better than 23.58 billion won DeGrom

At least this season, he’s a lot better than the $185 million man on the operating table, Jacob deGrom (35, Texas Rangers). But in the long game, there are risks.

Daeyin Dunning (29, Texas) started a home game against the Los Angeles Angels in the 2023 Major League Baseball World Series at Globe Live Field in Arlington, Texas, U.S., on Nov. 13 (ET) and gave up four runs on six hits in five innings with three walks and five strikeouts. It was the second straight game he struggled, allowing four runs on seven hits (three homers) with one walk and three strikeouts in 5⅔ innings against the St. Louis Cardinals on April 7.

Dunning was 2-0 with a 1.77 ERA in eight April starts and 2-1 with a 2.28 ERA in five May starts. He’s done a good job of filling the void left by DeGrom’s early collapse or departure. He’s actually pitched better than the established starters and has emerged as Toronto’s “bargain bin. Dunning’s salary this season is around $940,000.

But the first two games of June (local time) have been decidedly slow. He got off to a shaky start in the first inning, giving up a leadoff single to Taylor Ward. He got Shohei Ohtani to ground out to first base on a changeup, walked Mike Trout, and got Anthony Rendon to ground into a double play with a 91 mph sinker. Dunning got a fly ball himself to end the inning.

In the second inning, Dunning threw a cutter to leadoff hitter Matt Tice and got him to fly out to right, but then got Brandon Drury to ground out to third on a 91-mph fastball. In the third, he gave up a changeup to Ward two batters later and then walked Ohtani to load the bases. He got a good body pitch to Trout, but gave up a single to left. In the fourth, he retired the next three batters after a leadoff single.

Dunning was unable to protect a three-run lead in the fifth inning with the score 5-2. Leadoff hitter Zack Neto hit a 90-mph pitch to center for a double to left. Ward kept his sinker in front of the body, but it was hit up the middle. With runners on first and third, Ohtani hit a 91-mph fastball up the middle, but it was lucky to be a sacrifice fly to left field. He then gave up a walk to Trout and induced Rendon to fly out to right field, but Adolis Garcia’s throwing error allowed another run to score. After throwing a changeup to Tice, he was hit by an infield single and then gave up a wild pitch to Drury, allowing four runs to score.

Eventually, the bullpen allowed the tying run to score in the seventh, ending Dunning’s sixth win of the season. Overall, there were some good responses from the Angels’ hitters, but there are some things that need to be checked, such as the lucky sacrifice fly to Ohtani after a wild pitch. With DeGrom out for the season, it will be important for Dunning to continue to perform well. 토토사이트
