Ulsan University picks up its third win of the season with a sweep of Kangwon National University.
Ulsan University defeated Kangwon National University 75-56 in the 2023 KUSF University Basketball U-League Women’s Division on Monday at Kangwon National University Gymnasium.
Kim Yena (29 points, 5 three-pointers, 2 assists) and Kwon Na-young (24 points, 20 rebounds) led the way, while Kim Soo-mi (7 points, 12 rebounds, 4 assists) also made her presence felt. With its third win of the season, Ulsan University (3-5) remained in fifth place.
After falling behind 13-24 in the first quarter, Ulsan rallied in the second, with Kim Yena leading the charge. Kim spearheaded the offense, scoring 10 points with a layup and a three-pointer. Gangwon National University fought back with Choi Seul-ki and Kim Ji-hyun, but Chun Il-hwa scored back-to-back baskets. Kwon Na-young added to the offense and Ulsan ended the first half with a 31-38 lead.
In the second half, Ulsan came out swinging. Kim Yena and Kwon Na-young combined for 19 of the team’s 24 points in the third quarter, neutralizing Kangwon’s defense. They were supported by Kim Soo-mi and Chae Seung-hee, who were also focused on defense and kept Ulsan’s offense in check. At the end of the third quarter, the score was 55-45, Ulsan’s lead.
In the fourth quarter, Ulsan continued to dominate. Kim Yena and Kwon Na-young continued their scoring streaks, and Kim Soo-mi also scored an offensive basket. With the victory in hand, Ulsan University gave its bench members a chance to play and finished the game comfortably.
Meanwhile, Kangwon University was led by Han Jimin (18 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists), Choi Seul-ki (12 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists), and Choi Seo-yeon (12 points, 9 rebounds), but they were unable to overcome Ulsan’s power differential. The loss was their fifth straight to open the season 안전놀이터.
