The transfer fee for Alejandro Garnacho has been revealed, and the player has become a favourite of Eric ten Hagg’s at Manchester United this season. United fans are calling it the ‘biggest deal of all time’.
According to a report in the UK’s The Sun on the 3rd, Garnacho was signed for an unbelievably small fee. Garnacho joined United from Spanish side Atletico Madrid in 2020.
Prized for his blistering pace and excellent dribbling, he broke into the first team squad last season and made his United debut as a late substitute against Chelsea in April 2022. He has since made 32 appearances for the first team.
United paid £100,000, or $163 million, to sign Garnacho from Atletico Madrid’s youth club. That’s chewing gum money. Presumably, Atletico Madrid sold him on the cheap in 2020 because he was only 16 years old and his future was uncertain.
United’s scout Gerardo Guzman is said to have spotted Garnacho’s ability and recommended him to David Harrison, United’s head of youth clubs.
Manager Eric ten Hagh has given the 18-year-old plenty of opportunities this season. The 18-year-old has lived up to expectations, scoring five goals and providing six assists.
Garnacho scored his Premier League debut against Fulham earlier this season. He also scored against Real Sociedad in the Europa League.
United made an early bid to tie him down, offering him a long-term contract. After rejecting a deal longer than five years, he signed a five-year contract in early May that will keep him at the club until the end of the 2028 season. Garnacho signed the contract with his girlfriend. His girlfriend, Eva Garcia, posted a video of the signing on social media.
Fans applauded the club for securing Garnacho’s signature on the cheap, with one fan calling it “the biggest deal ever.” Another added: “This is a far superior deal to the £100m we keep wasting on ridiculous players. We need to do more deals like this in the future.” 스포츠토토
Some fans even marvelled that the cost of signing Garnacho was less than the weekly wages of United players.
Meanwhile, Garnacho, who was born on 1 July 2004, is reportedly set to become a father later this year. After signing a new long-term contract in May, he celebrated with his family at a restaurant, where it was revealed that his girlfriend Eva Garcia was pregnant.
The couple celebrated the pregnancy of their first child by posing for a photo with an adorable United shirt for Garnacho II.
