Toronto general manager Ross Atkins expressed expectations for Ryu Hyun-jin (36), who is striving for rehabilitation after elbow ligament splice surgery.
On the 18th (Korean time), general manager Atkins delivered the outlook for the 2023 season through Canadian media such as the Toronto Star and the Toronto Sun. He said, “It is difficult to say when Hyun-jin Ryu will return at this time, but I can tell you that the speed of recovery is very encouraging.”
Ryu Hyun-jin, who underwent an elbow ligament joint surgery in June of last year, is currently focusing on rehabilitation. He left for the United States at the end of December, earlier than usual, and began tempering.
Ryu Hyun-jin joined Toronto’s spring camp held in Dunedin, Florida, USA on the 14th. Toronto opened spring camp ahead of schedule for players participating in the 2023 World Baseball Classic (WBC), which opens in March. 안전놀이터
Although Ryu Hyun-jin does not participate in the WBC, he joined the camp early and is accelerating his comeback. He only pitched in 6 games last season in the aftermath of an injury, and showed a strong will to rebound in the new season as he had a sluggish ERA of 5.67.
It is a situation where we have to show clear competitiveness ahead of the final season of the FA (free agent) contract. To remain in the big leagues, he must regain his former skills and develop stable pitches.
Still, expectations for Ryu Hyun-jin are high. Toronto head coach John Schneider predicted, “If Ryu Hyun-jin returns, she will take a place in the starting rotation.”
